Christmas Bird CountsThe 108th Christmas Bird Counts Was Held December 14, 2007 Through January 5, 2008
2,052 counts were completed and 69,354,406 birds were counted in the 2006 count! The National Audubon website has full details on the entire project. Click to learn more about this global scientific effort. The Christmas Bird Count is rich in history, having begun in 1900 with one being held right here in the New York City region. Click for more information on the count’s history and objectives on National Audubon’s website. There were four CBCs being conducted in our area. The Peekskill count was held on Saturday, December 15 and was be led by John Askildsen, The Putnam County count was held on Saturday, December 29 and was coordinated by Charlie Roberto. The coordinators for the Greenwich-Stamford Christmas Bird Count, held on Sunday, December 16, were Brian O’Toole and Gary Palmer.
